It’s not an exaggeration to say that the Mombo Concession is one of the best wildlife viewing destinations in the whole of Africa, and the famous Mombo Camp is arguably the best place to base yourself in. A camp committed to responsible luxury, Mombo provides the highest quality accommodation in a unique island location buried deep in the Delta’s labyrinth of waterways.

Mombo is the “Place of Plenty,” from the vast landscapes of the Moremi Game Reserve to high concentrations of safari favourites roaming the plains of the private reserve. Not to mention the responsible luxury provided by Chief’s Island’s Mombo Camp.
Isolated deep in the Okavango Delta, in the 45,000-hectare Mombo Concession, Mombo Camp is surrounded by mopane woodland, belts of Kalahari sand and acacia trees, as well as shallow floodplains and riverine forest – ideal habitats for four-legged neighbours.
On game drives around the Delta, watch out for huge herds of buffalos and elephants, giraffes, Burchell’s zebras and blue wildebeests. Predators usually stalking close behind, such as leopards, cheetahs, spotted hyenas, as well as rare and critically endangered African wild dogs.
The Mombo wildlife area is also known for the presence of black and white rhinos, the most elusive of Africa’s Big Five. The reintroduction of rhinos to this region (the only rhino found in the Okavango Delta) is a widely-celebrated conservation success story, and you might just be lucky enough to spot them out on the plains with the Rhino Monitoring Team.
Back at camp, take a dip in the camp’s swimming pool and unwind in your luxury tented accommodation, complete with an opulent bathtub and spacious lounge facilities. With all the comforts of a high-end hotel, you’ll have to remind yourself just how far you are out in the wild.
Are muscles feeling a little stiff after a few days of game drives? Try “Workouts in the Wilderness” – yoga and workouts arranged at the camp’s gym or poolside, complete with bush views. Alternatively, swap the “African massage” of your safari jeep for an actual massage at Mombo’s in-house spa.
Mombo Camp is comprised of nine large tents, which all enjoy stunning views over the surrounding floodplains. Each tent includes a lounge area, bedroom and en-suite facilities, featuring indoor and outdoor showers, as well as a standalone bathtub with copper and brass fittings.
There is a gym, a swimming pool, a spa, helicopter excursions, safari activities and a photo hub for keen wildlife photographers.
A stay at Mombo Camp is full board, and the camp is famous for its delicious cuisine. In particular, guests love the freshly-made “bush brunch”, which is eaten during a break from a morning game drive.
Mombo Camp and its parent company, Wilderness Safaris, pride themselves on “responsible luxury” and are committed to maintaining a light footprint as a safari camp. Take a back-of-house tour to discover the small differences the camp has made, such as the use of solar power.
