Even though your only about a 20-minute drive from the main property in the lovely Namunyak Wildlife Conservation Trust, you are tucked up in the forest glades on the slopes of the mountains.

Offering large spacious ‘tree houses’, you’ll have the luxury of space and privacy to enjoy your personal view across the mountains. Just eight tented suites, and two of these creating a family unit you will have the undivided attention of your hosts to create the perfect experience.

Whether this is your first time to Kenya, or you are a seasoned traveller this lodge will leave you with memories lasting a lifetime. As you eat dinner beneath the stars, take a bush walk or horse ride in the vast plains below and of course make friends with the Samburu who call this home remember to soak it all in.

Get immersed in the culture and try out a beading workshop with the local ladies or try your hand at being a blacksmith to create a traditional metal bracelet. A must when visiting either of the gorgeous Sarara properties is a visit to the Reteti Elephant Sanctuary, each elephant has a different story so take your time to get to know them and the great team behind them.

This provides a perfect luxury base to explore.

The Resort

The Sarara Tree Camp encompasses the same atmosphere and vibrancy that Sarara has become renowned for. Nestled into a forest glade within an hour’s walk of Sarara, the treehouses emerge out of the forest canopy. A main mess area and swimming pool command incredible views of Mount Uarges, one of the seven sacred mountains to the Samburu.

Elephant, buffalo, leopard, bushbuck and a wide array of other life roam beneath you on the forest floor, offering incredible wildlife experiences from the comfort of your beautifully appointed tree tent. This off the grid, solar-powered masterpiece is entirely eco-friendly, with every precaution and expense taken to preserve the natural habitat surrounding it.

The Sarara Tree Camp is entirely community-owned.

Facilities

A wide range of activities are available in this desert and mountain landscape, from horse riding to fly camping, and helicopter rides and waterfall hikes – nothing is too much to ask to make the most of your time here. Enjoy a dip in the infinity pool and dinner at the communal captains table.

To top it off co-owner Katie is a trained chef who ensures food is always top notch, be it in the main lodge setting as you settle in for some communal dining, or out under the stars as you have a private dinner surrounded by the raw African night. Bush breakfasts and dinners under the stars are a favourite.

How this resort makes your trip more responsible

Sarara Treehouse not only works with the same amazing projects and community initiatives at Sarara Camp, it goes beyond and is entirely community owned! With all profits going right back to the amazing people who will make your stay unforgettable.

The camp is powered by solar energy generated by several sets of solar panels. Fresh food is kept, not in a refrigerator, but in a specially designed charcoal store. Twice a day the charcoal is soaked with water and evaporation keeps food at cellar temperatures.
