Spanning the banks of the Zambezi river, Ruckomechi is a luxurious camp situated in its own private concession on the North West of Mana Pools. The whole park is fantastically scenic, and this camp makes the most of it – with every suite offering sweeping views across the river.

Mana Pools National Park lies at the heart of the Zambezi Valley, a remote, beautiful place with spectacular views. The area offers large concentrations of buffalo and elephant, while predators such as lion, wild dog, leopard and cheetah are often sighted. Birdlife is superb, with numerous local specials like collared palm-thrush and racket-tailed roller.

Covering a little under 40km2, the concession is bisected by the Ruckomechi River, with the eastern half within Mana Pools National Park, and the western side in Hurungwe Safari Area. It's an area of varied habitat, from mopane woodland and scrubland to open grassland, attracting high concentrations of wildlife. This private concession not only allows for greater flexibility of activities than is possible within the national park itself, but also helps to provide a more exclusive game-viewing experience.

Ruckomechi Camp rises along the banks of the Zambezi River, gazing out towards Zambia’s evocative escarpment. Its broad-canopied albida trees create glorious shade throughout the camp and are much loved by the elephants for their rich, nutritious seeds. With just 10 tented suites, two of which are family units you will certainly love whilst you explore this vast wilderness.

Facilities

Being situated on a private concession allows a wide variety of safari activities to take place, head out by vehicle, on foot or as Mana Pools is known for – by boat or canoe! Enjoy the lovely infinity pool, the great sleep out deck or just your beautiful room.

Dining

As per usual with any Wilderness property, expect heart warming meals created using local ingredients for every meal. Most dietary requirements can be catered for if the camp knows in advance.

Why Wayfairer

Wilderness properties across Africa do a lot of really great work with regards to sustainability of their presence in these remote, beautiful areas. Ruckomechi is directly involved in many great conservation successes, assisting in wild dog research due to the loss of land to farming over time. Due to this, working to mediate human-wildlife conflict in the surrounding areas is very important to allow this area to thrive.
