Located in the GMA area on the southern side of the Luangwa River, this stunning eco-lodge is a stone’s throw away from the iconic South Luangwa National Park. Shawa Luangwa is run by Green Safaris, and the camp was opened in 2019, making it one of the newest camps in the National Park.
Green Safaris got its inspiration for building Shawa Luangwa from its now head guide, Jacob Shawa. You are guaranteed to have a fantastic, informative safari experience when staying at this camp due to Jacobss true passion for wildlife. Jacob is a legendary guide in the valley, his interest in wildlife and conservation goes back to his school days where he was appointed the Chairman of the Wildlife Conservation Club.
This stunning camp was opened in South Luangwa due to Green Safaris great success in other parts of Zambia and Malawi. They offer amazing travel routes throughout the two countries allowing for guests to stay in their other properties, such as Ila Lodge in Kafue National Park, Chisa Busanga Camp, and Tongabezi Lodge whilst enjoying the spectacular Victoria Falls. Linking all these properties together creates an unforgettable itinerary, for the ultimate adventure safari experience. Placed right on the edge of the wild Luangwa River sits a large swimming pool, meaning you can spend your afternoons relaxing by the pool whilst watching the hippos weave in and out of each other to find the best place to enjoy the heat of the sun. A campfire area is positioned next to the swimming pool, enjoy a refreshing after dinner drink whilst learning about the constellations of the stunning African stary night.
The lodge, all set on stilts above the ground boasts a large dining and living area at the heart of the camp. The raised platforms throughout the camp not only create amazing views over the river and beyond into the National Park. It also helps to illuminate the environmental impacts of building work.
Shawa Luangwa Camp consists of 5 luxury safari tents, 4 sleeping 2 guests and 1 family tent accommodating for a group for 4 guests. Each tent melts away into the silence of the surrounding scenery. With their very own in room bathtubs and verandas at the forefront, relax into your afternoon siesta time from the comfort of your room, whilst taking in the iconic views of the wilds of the national park in the foreground. Each room has the flexibility of being set to single or double bed configurations. During the day the side tents will be rolled up creating a feeling of living high up within the local tree life, creating a 240 degrees birds-eye view.
Dining can be communal or private, as per the request of the guests. Dining is normally located within the main area, however, on special occasions, guests may experience a romantic meal down by the poolside.
Due to the partnership with the legendary guide, Jacob the activities from camp will not disappoint. Guests can enjoy inciteful game drives, in one of the camps electric safari vehicles. To begin your drive, you will cross the Luangwa River on a boat or pontoon before exploring the diverse, wildlife rich National Park.
