Perfect for families (children aged 7 & over), couples and honeymooners.
Nkwali is perfectly located on the meandering banks of the great Luangwa River, overlooking the South Luangwa National Park. This camp offers simple elegance and comfort. It is situated on Robin Pope Safaris’ private land ensuring a serene and private home base for your time in the area.
Located just a 40-minute drive from Mfuwe airport, you can maximise your time on safari. The camp is perfectly situated along the banks just outside the national park boundary, giving you three different ways of getting to the park (seasonal due to water levels of the river). You can access the park by game drive, boat or by their African pontoon (a real treat and unique experience). Access to the park is quick and allows you to be in the thick of it within a 15-minute game drive from camp or a 2-minute ride by boat.
With only six open front chalets with open ensuite bathrooms, you are guaranteed an authentic yet comfortable safari experience with personal service and a “family feel” atmosphere when socialising with the other guests. A maximum of 14 guests means every person is treated like a VIP and your individual needs are given full attention by the friendly and helpful staff and guides.
Nkwali offers walking safaris, day and night game drives, a cultural village tour, local markets and the tribal textile trade run by the local people. Wildlife sightings in the park are numerous and varied but you may also experience the likes of leopard, elephants and giraffe from your very own patio in the morning and afternoon.
Perfect for families, couples and honeymooners. Nkwali welcomes children over the age of 7 and the tour guides make learning fun when it comes to experiencing the local fauna and flora of the area when on game drives or within the camp itself.
The intimate camp has six open front rooms, each overlooking the beautiful Luangwa River and surrounding African bush. Each room is tastefully decorated and offers either double or twin beds and mosquito nets. Each room offers a large ensuite bathroom with WC, double basins and two hot open-air showers. There is a family room that offers an additional day room attached with two single beds and a smaller additional bathroom.
The camp offers a lovely, modest pool where guests can enjoy cooling down during the hot African afternoons and watch the roaming elephants and giraffes who graze and forage on the river banks. This is a perfect place to relax and enjoy a drink or two.
Camp dining is in either the open sided thatch dining room in the main camp area overlooking the lagoon, under the stars, or on the sandbank in the middle of the river during the drier months of the year.
There is a large bar built around a local ebony tree, a great oasis to sit on comfortable chairs and enjoy the stunning views over the lagoon.
Robin Pope Safaris supports local people in the area they operate. Staff and guides are trained and given opportunities to work within their brand. It is possible to arrange to visit one of the projects that Project Luangwa supports while on your safari at Nkwali. These projects include schools, tree planting and the new local library.
