families (children aged 7 & over), adults and honeymooners.

Found nestled under an ancient ebony tree, Luangwa River Camp is an exclusive safari camp offering effortless luxury and a real sense of being in the heart of the wild. The camp has been built along the banks of the great Luangwa River with easy access to wildlife in the park, either by game vehicle or boat (seasonal).

An intimate camp offering just five large, thatched suites that offer huge beds, stylish yet comfortably furnishings and large stone baths overlooking the river. These bush suites have been designed to maximise the experience for both first time and seasoned safari traveller. The suites can be left opened or closed during the day and night to suit you.

Wildlife viewings are many and varied at and around this camp as Robin Pope Safaris have chosen this enviable position overlooking the famous Luangwa Wafwa area. Known for the large variety of wildlife including birds, elephants, giraffes and predators, there is never a dull moment. Lions, in particular, can be seen from camp.

Activities include game drives (both day and night), walking safaris, seasonal boating, village tours, visit to the Wildlife Education Centre and experiencing the local tribal textile trade and markets for authentic local arts and crafts.

Getting to the camp is a wonderful experience in itself and part of your African safari journey. After a short flight from either Lusaka in Zambia or Lilongwe in Malawi to Mfuwe, you will then take a scenic 1-hour road transfer from Mfuwe airport to camp. You will experience some colourful African village scenes as well as some wildlife on your drive.

Luangwa River Camp welcomes children over the age of 7 and some activities such as boating and the Wildlife Education Centre are firm favourites for children and young adults.

The camp

The intimate camp has five large and subtly decorated suites with ensuite bathrooms offering a shower and stone bath (some are sunken) as well as twin basins. Both the bedroom and bathroom lead out onto a private deck. There is an emphasis on space and freedom of movement. It is common to see elephants and other wildlife crossing the river from your room.

The main area is elevated and built of timber, blending with the surrounding bush scape. This area boasts two plunge pools linked by a cascading waterfall, perfect for those lazy mornings and afternoons between activities. There is an open air bar and shaded seating around the pool, all built with uninterrupted views of the river.

Facilities

The camp offers a pool, outside bar area, game drives, walking safaris, village tours and local market visits.

Dining

The fully-inclusive rate includes all meals, snacks and alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. Some rare or select alcoholic drinks may incur an additional charge.

Why Wayfairer

Robin Pope Safaris supports local people in the area they operate. Staff and guides are trained and given opportunities to work within their brand. It is possible to arrange to visit one of the projects that Project Luangwa supports while on your safari at Nkwali. These projects include schools, tree planting and the new local library.
