The drive to Island Bush Camp will take you through woodlands and riverine landscapes, while passing through a couple of authentic villages. At the camp, the views stretch from the Chindeni hills in the Eastern corners of the Luangwa Valley, to the Muchinga escarpment in the West, presenting the complete natural boundary of this remote and achingly beautiful wilderness. Every day offers new and unique experiences.
Walking safaris are their main activity in this pristine place, a chance to explore the bush on a different level. Under the guidance of our professional guides and escorted by an armed park scout, you’ll embark on a slow-paced wander looking for different wildlife species and taking the time to hear about nature’s wonders too often overlooked on game drives. Exploring the bush on foot, being on the ground in the vicinity of wild animals is exhilarating and should not be missed.
Meals are prepared over an open fire or on a wood burning stove. Communal meals offer the opportunity to share bush tales and fellow travellers as well as the staff, who certainly have great stories to tell.
With just 5 chalets, this camp is very intimate and has minimized its footprint and impact on the environment as much as possible, as can be seen in the design and aesthetic of the camp itself.
This intimate camp has just 5 double chalets, built on platforms from local materials and raised up on stilts for incredible views of the busy river below. The chalets have incredible open air ensuite bathrooms with cold running water, flush toilet and stylish bucket showers with piping hot water provided once a day.
Although offering night game drives to give the guests an opportunity to see the nocturnal animals, walking safaris are Island Bush Camp’s speciality! The expert guides offer an experience to see the local fauna and flora on ground level.

The fully-inclusive rate includes all meals, snacks and alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks. Some rare or select alcoholic drinks may incur an additional charge.
Island Bush Camp is directly involved in community based projects in the area and as much as possibly employs locals for their staff while also supporting local businesses and suppliers for item to run the camp and ensure the maintenance of the camp itself is adhering to their ethos of having a minimal footprint on the environment.
