The lodge

The lodge has an intimate atmosphere with only seven rooms strewn around the beautiful gardens and a separate River Farmhouse. The rooms are built from brick and thatch and are comfortably equipped with en-suite bathrooms, showers and fluffy bathrobes. The charming rooms are named after different birds. ‘Owl’ is the family chalet sleeping up to six people over two split levels, while ‘Weaver’ and ‘Swallow’ are individual chalets with double beds and private decks overlooking the river. Weaver has a bathtub along with a shower.

There’s also the River Farmhouse which is a five-minute walk from the main lodge. It can sleep a family or group of up to eight people and even features its own chef. Waterberry’s main area is a split-level building with an upstairs lounge and bar and a downstairs dining area. The dining space leads out onto the gardens and has a terrace overlooking the river, while the bar serves a range of local drinks and wines. Waterberry welcomes children of all ages and provides many activities for families. There’s a separate plunge pool for children, wonderful nature walks, boat cruises and island picnics, cultural village walks and of course, a visit to the mighty Victoria Falls.

The lodge offers a pool, visits to Victoria Falls, boat cruises, island picnics, fishing trips, guided birding, a tour of Livingstone and a guided village walk to rural Zambia.

The full-board basis includes buffet breakfasts, hearty home-cooked lunches, three-course dinners and an all day tea, coffee and snack station, with indoor and outdoor settings and a bar.

Why Wayfairer

Waterberry Lodge is committed to social conversation, founding Tukongote Community Projects in 2009. The initiative aims to improve the educational opportunities in the surrounding local villages. They support over 400 children in three preschools and one primary school, and employ 25 local teachers and support staff. Currently, 75 children receive free schooling and Waterberry is assisting 14 teachers to gain recognised teaching qualifications. Guests of the lodge are welcome to support these initiatives by donating resources for the classrooms. Waterberry also offers village walks where you can observe everyday rural village life, guided by the lodge’s staff who live in these villages. You’ll learn about local customs and see the Tukongote projects in action.
