Nestled in a beautiful spot on the banks of the Zambezi River, Tongabezi Lodge is the region’s ultimate romantic retreat.

Founded in 1990, the lodge is still owned and run by Ben Parker, one of the original founders. It’s now an award-winning property, renowned for its incredible service and luxurious features.

Catering to a range of travellers, Tongabezi has a variety of accommodation options. There are five River Cottages, and six individual ‘houses’, each with their own quirky design and decorated with stunning arts and textiles from all over Africa.

From private infinity pools and claw-footed baths, to hidden tree houses, family suites and a Honeymoon House that’s been described as ‘worth getting married for’, Tongabezi is a truly spectacular property.

Whichever room you choose, you’ll experience Tongabezi’s exceptional service. All guests are looked after by their own valet, who will organise all your activities and meals, ensuring that your stay runs smoothly.

There are a huge range of activities on offer from sunset cruises and canoe trips to nature walks, game drives and a visit to the Victoria Falls. There’s also plenty to do within the property.

The lodge

The lodge has five River Cottages with giant glass windows and doors and private decks overlooking the river. There are also six individual houses, each with its own style and character. The Nut House is a sunny glass-tiled suite with a private garden and an infinity plunge pool, while the hidden Tree House is constructed over three levels in a riverine Ebony tree with space for private dining and a claw-footed bath. The Bird House also boasts an open-air bath and a private terrace to dine under the stars.

The Dog House offers incredible luxury, perched over the river with a private infinity pool, three decks with space for private dining, an open-air bath, a double-sided fireplace and king-sized bed, ensuite bedrooms. A stay her also includes exclusive use of a boat and private game-drive vehicle. The Garden House is a self-contained suite that’s perfect for families, with a private dining area, two double ensuite bedrooms, a plunge pool and a spacious lounge. Finally, there’s the renowned Honeymoon House. With romantic candelit dinners overlooking the river and an open-air sunken bath with beautiful views, Tongabezi loves to spoil their honeymooning guests.

Facilities

The lodge features a pool, spa and offer activities such as sunset cruises, canoe trips, bushwalks, village trips, Victoria Falls trips and game drives to Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park.

Dining

Meal times are a sumptuous experience with buffet breakfasts, three-course dinners, private meals delivered to your terrace, or even a candlelit dinner on a pontoon in the middle of the Zambezi.

Tongabezi Lodge is dedicated to leaving a positive impact on the community. They are sponsors of the Tujatane School & Village Project, which provides education and lunches for around 280 local children including the Tongabezi staff children. From building the school’s first classroom, the project has now led to the opening of a library and a computer and media room at the school. The lodge also donates 10% of proceeds from Livingstone Island to build houses for Mukuni village teachers, with thirteen houses built so far.
