Set on a private island in the middle of the Zambezi River, Sindabezi Island Lodge offers a stunning retreat into nature.
Only accessible by a scenic 20-minute boat ride from the main Tongabezi Lodge, Sindabezi is remote and exclusive. Here, you’ll find peace away from the bustle of Livingstone, yet still within reach of the magnificent Victoria Falls.
There are just five open-sided, thatched roof chalets, set on stilts above the ground. The gorgeous chalets are charmingly rustic with luxurious fittings. You’ll find solid polished wood and colonial antique furnishings, comfortable lounges and canopied beds.
The lodge seamlessly blends with the beautiful natural environment of the island. All chalets come with a ‘loo with a view’ and the honeymoon chalet boasts a claw-footed bath out on the private deck.
At Sindabezi, it’s all about relaxing into nature. They elevated dining area is a lovely place to watch the sunset or enjoy the plethora of birdlife with some afternoon tea. It’s also common to spot game on the river banks across from the island.
There’s a firepit dug into the sand, where guests can gather to enjoy the starry skies and tranquil atmosphere.
You’ll also have plenty of activities to choose from including sunset cruises, canoeing trips, nature walks, fishing, village trips, and game drives in the Mosi-Oa-Tunya National Park. All activities run from the main Tongabezi Lodge, and the Victoria Falls are just a 30 minute drive from Tongabezi.

The lodge
Sindabezi Lodge retains its exclusive atmosphere with just four beautiful chalets and one incredible honeymoon chalet. All chalets are nestled within the trees and are open-sided, facing on to the river. The private sundecks are a gorgeous spot to relax and spot wildlife around the riverbanks. The chalets offer barefoot luxury and a lovely rustic design, with solid, polished wood furniture and copper washbashins. You’ll have a comfortable, canopied bed, solar heated outdoor shower and a loo with a view, so you’ll always be entwined with your stunning environment.
The honeymoon chalet is particularly stunning. Set on a secluded section of beach at the end of the island, you’ll adore the tranquility. There’s even an old-fashioned claw foot bath set out on the deck that’s perfect for two. The romance extends throughout the island with ambient lighting from candles and hurricane lamps. The lodge is perfect for couples, although they can accommodate for families and groups who would like a private booking of the island (the lodge imposes a minimum age of 14 due to safety reasons).
Facilities
The lodge offers a range of activities from the main Tongabezi Lodge, including canoe trips, sunset cruises, nature walks, game drives and a trip to the Victoria Falls.
Dining
You’ll enjoy delicious, open-air dining in the central elevated dining area, with individual candle-lit tables overlooking the river.
Why Wayfairer
Sindabezi operates with a dedicated focus on environmental and community sustainability. They use solar power as their main energy source,biodegradable toiletries, a water bottling system that has helped to save 20,000 plastic water bottles a year, and organic vegetables from the onsite gardens. Their wood supplies come from sustainable forests near Ndola and they also contribute to the Tujatane School & Village Project. The school provides education for 280 children from the local community and the Tongabezi staff children and they also provide a daily lunch for the students. Sindabezi’s sponsorship of the school has led to the opening of a computer lab and a library and media room for the students.
