Families, Couples & Honeymoons
Camellia Hills is a luxurious hotel set amidst Sri Lanka’s lush tea fields. This beautiful hotel sits on the side of a mountain overlooking emerald tea plantations and pine forests, and it offers breathtaking views of the famous Castlereagh Reservoir.
It is a perfect setting to discover Sri Lanka’s majestic hill region and it’s ideally suited to couples looking for a rural retreat.
The design of this contemporary new-build hotel takes inspiration from the traditional tea planter's bungalows that were built in this area during the colonial era, and the open-air living spaces and the modern yet cosy decor enhances the peaceful setting.
Camelia Hills has an intimate and homely atmosphere - you can enjoy the panoramic views from the open-plan living and dining area and cosy up in front of the double-sided fireplace during the cooler evenings (blankets are provided for chilly evenings).
With just five bedrooms Camellia Hills offers guests an experience akin to staying in a private house rather than a conventional hotel (note: rooms are booked on an individually, however the entire bungalow can be booked on an exclusive basis which is a perfect option for groups or families).
From the hotel you can discover the surrounding tea plantations either independently or with a local guide, learn about Sri Lanka’s hill-dwelling leopards at a local research station, or explore the Peak Wilderness Sanctuary and climb Adam’s Peak.
Alternatively you can relax beside the hotel’s 10m infinity pool and absorb the incredible mountain views, or enjoy afternoon tea in the lush gardens.
Camellia Hills has just five comfortable and stylish bedrooms – comprising of three Lakeview Bedrooms and two Camellia Bedrooms. Each room offers spectacular views over the Castlereagh Reservoir or the lush surrounding hills. The Camellia Bedrooms (Norton and Maskeliya) both have ensuite bathrooms and they have either a king-sized four-poster bed or twin beds. The three Lakeview Bedrooms (Dickoya, Osbourne and Warleigh) offer spectacular views over the Castlereagh Valley and surrounding tea hills (Osbourne has twin aspect mountainside and lake-facing views).
Children are welcome at Camellia Hills and the most suitable room for families is Dickoya which has a spacious family-friendly bedroom and a second single room with pull-out trundle bed, making it suitable for families of four.
Facilities at Camellia Hills include an open-plan restaurant and bar, 10m infinity pool, and a personalised butler service. There’s free WiFi throughout the bungalow.
Camellia Hills operates on an all-inclusive basis, including breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner, plus complimentary soft drinks, beer, house wine, spirits with mixers and tea/coffee available throughout the day.
Camellia Hills shares Wayfairer’s values with regards to sustainable tourism by following environmentally responsible practices. For example they give guests the option not to have their towels washed everyday and by reducing the quantity of towels they wash, they reduce water consumption, energy and use of detergents. They’re also committed to eliminating the use of single-use plastics at the hotel and guests are requested to use stainless steel water bottles rather than plastic bottles.
Camellia Hills is part of the Teardrop hotel group who are dedicated to helping and sustaining their local communities through their charitable foundation, CARE (Creating A Rewarding Experience).
