Couples, Families & Honeymoons
The Wallawwa is a beautifully restored 200-year old manor house set in five acres of lush tropical garden.
This private hideaway, part of the Teardrop hotel group, retains the ambience of a colonial manor house with modern amenities, indulgent luxury and excellent personal service.
Only 20 minutes from Colombo Airport this luxurious hotel is a perfect place to stay for a night or two at the start or end of your holiday, and it can also be a wonderful addition to any Sri Lanka itinerary.
Although it is located close to the airport, it is a tranquil retreat which is completely hidden away and it is a lovely place to escape, unwind and relax.
This stylish boutique hotel has 18 spacious rooms and suites, all of which have a private veranda with views of the immaculate gardens.
The rooms offer traditional and modern comforts and have been beautifully designed with plenty of modern conveniences.
The hotel also has an Indian-tiled swimming pool surrounded by exotic trees and plants, a library, a luxurious spa, a fruit and vegetable garden, and a fantastic restaurant which serves delicious Asian and international meals.
In a nod to Sri Lanka’s colonial past, complimentary afternoon tea is served at 3.30pm every day - you can choose from a selection of Ceylonese teas and freshly made cakes and scones, and you can enjoy your high tea either on the wicker chairs on the lawn or the shady veranda.
The 18 bedrooms and suites reflect the character of this 18th century manor house and the contemporary additions make them stylish and modern. The king-size four-poster bed with quality mattress, crisp linen sheets and lightweight duvet, and the blackout blinds on the large windows will ensure that you get a good night's sleep – essential if you’ve just arrived on a long haul flight. Families can either opt for interconnecting rooms or the two-bedroom Mountbatten Suite which has a private plunge pool. All rooms have air-conditioning and a fan, a flatscreen TV, minibar, a Nespresso coffee machine and tea-making facilities, bathrobes and a range of toiletries in the bathroom.
The Wallawwa’s 16m stone-lined swimming pool is set in the exotic gardens surrounded by tropical trees and plants, and it’s hidden out of sight of the hotel making it a perfect spot to relax. There’s also a tranquil spa where guests can enjoy luxurious massages, scrubs and facials. The hotel’s boutique offers a collection of locally made gifts, with all proceeds going to local charities.
Facilities at The Wallawwa include a spa offering massages, scrubs and wraps using traditional Ayurvedic techniques, a library, a swimming pool, and a restaurant serving delicious Asian fusion cuisine.
Breakfast, lunch and dinner can be enjoyed in ‘The Verandah’ - the hotel’s open-sided restaurant overlooking the tropical gardens. Food is served all day, with a separate dinner menu available in the evening.
The Wallawwa is part of the Teardrop hotel group. Teardrop are dedicated to supporting their local communities and the group has created CARE (Creating A Rewarding Experience) which is a charitable foundation that helps the communities in the areas surrounding their hotels. CARE has strong ties to a local orphanage and they help the older children at the orphanage find work, plus they provide hospitality training so that they can work at The Wallawwa once they’ve finished school.
