Perfect For

Couples, Honeymooners, Families

The luxurious Rockfig Safari Lodge was created to showcase and merge with its magnificent Timbavati setting. A relaxed ambiance is formed through the skilful flow between indoor and outdoor designer spaces, and the décor, beautiful furnishings and art pieces allow for both communal and private moments suffused with an authentic bush feel. 6 suites have in- and outdoor showers, baths with views and private veranda's.

On a winters evening, settle in the lounge beside the fireplace, sharing safari stories. Meals have an emphasis on local produce and are whipped up in the open-plan kitchen, where guests can watch the process and perhaps pick up a few tips. Dining takes place at a communal table, in the boma beside a crackling fire, or on your private veranda (for a romantic candlelit dinner).

When not on game drives and bush walks in search of the animals which inhabit this big 5 reserve, perhaps relax beside the pool with its outlook over the waterhole or enjoy a rejuvenating spa treatment. This is the perfect bush destination for families with children of all ages, or for groups of friends.

Morning and afternoon game drives with professional guides and trackers, and a maximum of 4 guests per vehicle ensure incredible wildlife experiences that bring this wild corner of South Africa to life.

Set in the heart of Timbavati Private Nature Reserve, adjacent to the famous Kruger National Park, RockFig Safari Lodge is well situated for forays into the African wilds. Game drives let you cover some ground in the comfort of a vehicle, while walking safaris put you right on the ground, exploring the area under your own steam.

The Lodge

RockFig Safari Lodge features just six chalet-type suites, making it ideal for exclusive-use bookings for families or groups of friends. The sense of place comes through strongly, with the colour palette in each room inspired by the purple and green hues of local birds and plants.

Although guests are always conscious of where they are, no stone is left unturned in the quest for comfort and luxury, with each suite featuring both indoor and outdoor showers, a private veranda ideal for romantic candlelit dinners, a minibar and a bath. Specially commissioned watercolour paintings add notes of cool beauty, and – as with every space in the lodge – the aim is always to delight the guests who’ll stay here. There’s a thoughtfulness to the decor, with the emphasis being on the guest experience – but also an unmissable sense that it’s the natural beauty of the Timbavati bushveld that’s the true hero.

The open-plan kitchen is a favourite with younger guests, who love to sit at the counter and watch their meals being prepared, while it’s hard to resist the pull of the fireplace in the lounge on a winter’s evening. Subtle touches of opulence are throughout, including the dreamy chandelier that hangs over the impressive, 4m-long table, which is perfect for shared meals and safari stories.

Dining

Meals here are a treat for the senses, with fresh, local produce being used to create scrumptious dining. Kids love the open plan kitchen and bush dining in different areas allows you to eat under the stars! Chose to enjoy a romantic evening or join others overlooking the waterhole as you swap safari stories.

Activities

With just four people on each vehicle you enjoy a private safari experience allowing you to maximize your views and time with your guide. Bush walks are also a fantastic way to explore, leave the vehicle behind and track on foot for a unique safari. For those who are bursting with questions invite your guide to have lunch or dinner with you to pick their brains!

Why Wayfairer

RockFig Safari Lodge employs local people and supports the local economy. These immediate benefits, however, are less important than the shared long-term conservation vision of the lodge and the Timbavati Foundation, which emphasises environmental education and outreach programmes in community schools.

Timbavati Foundation initiatives such as permagardening teach children the importance of wisely using resources and recycling. To ensure that future generations inherit an untainted legacy, the foundation also channels resources into supporting rangers on anti-poaching patrols, and into alien-plant-eradication projects.
