The 18,000-hectare Motswari Private Game Reserve is situated within the Timbavati Private Nature Reserve inside the well-known Kruger National Park. Offering an authentic safari experience, this family-owned lodge promises comfortable accommodation, fantastic service and top-class game viewing.
Owned by the Geiger family for over 40 years, Motswari Game Lodge has a distinct family feeling, decorated with family memorabilia and traditional African features. The spacious en-suite bungalows are well positioned to achieve a sense of isolation. To experience true remoteness, spend a night in the Giraffe’s Nest Hide; a luxury treehouse overlooking a popular dam.
Game drives are focussed on the abundant game viewing in the area. Expect to see plenty of plains game (blue wildebeest, zebra, giraffe) in addition to the Big 5. For keen birders, over 350 species have been recorded in the area. Bush walks can be arranged in the mornings and offer a great insight into the smaller beings of the bush, from insects to wildflowers and trees. Be sure to keep an eye out for animals too, as the area is well-suited for viewing game on foot.
The 15 well-positioned bungalows at Motswari are classically built from timber, stone and thatch to blend in with the surrounding nature. They are each designed to sleep a maximum of two people, although some inter-lead to provide a suitable space for families. En-suite bathrooms include a flush toilet, basin and a shower and/or bath. The rooms have lots of space for storage as well as a separate seating area. The deck leading off the double glass doors is a lovely spot to relax with a book during the day.
The communal lounge is open sided and has ample seating to accommodate all the guests, overlooking the well-maintained grounds and the Sohebele river. Here you can also find a well-stocked bar and a relaxed dining area, although meals are often served in both the boma and bush itself.
Surrounded by sun loungers and with views over the waterhole, the swimming pool is a perfect place to rest during the heat of the day. You can also book in with the mobile spa which offers a wide array of treatments to satisfy all your pampering needs.
Facilities include A/C, WiFi in the main area, swimming pool, bar and lounge.
Meals are taken in a picturesque spot in the bush with your qualified guide, in the dining area or fireside in the boma.
As a well-known wildlife artist, Marion Geiger’s work is featured throughout the camp. Through her art, the Geiger family have committed to raising awareness surrounding rhino poaching, and in 2014 they founded Rhino Disharmony, a charitable organisation made up of artists from around the world who come together to support rhino conservation initiatives in South Africa.
