Couples & Honeymoons
Virunga Lodge has stunning views over the Musanze Valley, Lake Bulera and the magnificent volcanic skyline. It’s of the most sought-after accommodations, not just in Rwanda, but in the whole of Africa.
Perched high on a ridge, it took two years to find the perfect location for Virunga Lodge, and the incredible vistas from the property do not disappoint. From sunrise to sunset, guests are rewarded with breathtaking views and offers only 8 luxurious banda cottages, and two larger deluxe bandas ideal for families or honeymooners.
If you can secure one of the uniquely decorated rooms then you are in for a treat as not only are the stunning views brought into the rooms and terraces, but each banda has been decorated with local fabrics and artwork.
As expected the style and splendour continues throughout Virunga Lodge. Guests have their own butler to cater to assist them with every aspect of their stay, from cleaning muddy boots to booking complimentary massages.
Activities, such as walks to the nearby lakes and Dian Fossey’s grave can also be arranged from Virunga, as well as the main reason for visiting this remote area; treks through the national park to meet mountain gorillas.
If you can pull your eyes away from the view, the Dian Fossey Map Room is educational and interesting, with sketches, old maps and books about the famous residents of Parc National des Volcans (Volcanoes National Park).
The 10 bandas are individually named after Rwandan lakes and feature a fireplace. Each banda cottage has perfect views over the Musanze Valley, lakes and mountain range, and is the perfect place to sit and start the day with coffee. Each room also has its own appointed butler who will arrange wake up calls, book any tours or activities and even arrange your trekking boots to be cleaned after venturing into the Parc National des Volcans.
As Virunga Lodge sits on a hill, the property has implemented terraced gardens to make use of the mountain slope. Guests can explore the property on various trails, including a ‘crater loop’ and the lodge also offers longer treks to Karisimbi or Visoke Volcanoes and Dian Fossey's grave. Parc National des Volcans is a 40-minute drive from Virunga Lodge, but the road has recently been resurfaced and the view along the way offers glimpses into real Rwanda.
Virunga Lodge has a new Spa and a Map Room to learn about Dian Fossey, her life, work and the local region. There are also marked trails around the property.
A restaurant, lounge/bar and sun terrace to enjoy the scenic views. Guests at Virunga Lodge stay on a full board basis so all meals (including picnics) and drinks are included.
Possibly the best view in Africa, Virunga Lodge has it all - the vistas, the location and the luxurious accommodation. It’s also solar powered and the lodge has a minimal impact on the environment, while each of the 10 rooms is uniquely decorated with Rwandan flair.
