Families, Couples & Honeymoons
Nestled deep into the foothills of the Virunga mountain range, Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge offers the most luxurious cottages in the whole Parc National des Volcans (Volcanoes National Park) area.
With only 9 beautiful cottages, this is one of the most sought-after properties in the region. Each cottage is made from local stone and terracotta and finished to a high standard with clean interior design and a few bright Rwandan colours to make the rooms unique. Stylish ensuite bathrooms follow the terracotta theme while each cottage has their own fireplace to keep warm in the chilly evenings.
Guests can drink their morning coffee in the cottages private sitting areas or on their outdoor verandas with views of the mighty volcanoes in the distance. Birdwatchers will also be rewarded with chances to spot some of the 600 species of bird flying around the mountainous region.
As well as the cottages and the incredible views over the property, Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge also has an ideal location. Around 3km from the National Park headquarters, treks through the rainforest to see the mighty mountain gorilla await visitors.
From treks to the gorillas and golden monkeys, to visiting local community projects and cultural excursions, Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge has a range of interesting activities for guests.
There is also an on-site spa for soothing aching muscles after long treks. A beautiful property with an excellent location, the only downside to the Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge is that there are not more rooms - book early to secure your stunning cottage.
Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge's rooms feature a spacious open plan living and sleeping area, with a seating area by a built-in fireplace, stylish bathroom and large windows to bring the stunning mountain views inside. The stone walls keep the cottages cool in the daytime and warm at night, and the outdoor veranda is the perfect place to watch the sunset from. The two Suites offer generous living rooms, two verandas and even more intricate details woven into the suite cottages.
The main lodge at Sabyinyo Silverback is built in the same style as the cottages, with a terracotta roof and large outdoor deck area to relax in the fresh mountain air and admire the volcanoes from a distance. Take a walk through the landscaped gardens to spot birdlife and reptiles, or enjoy a drink at the bar or cards in the game room. Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge even has a community awareness centre where guests can learn about Rwanda and its famous primate inhabitants.
A lounge area complete with fireplace, a community awareness centre, spa and breathtaking views of the Virunga mountain range.
A dining room with indoor and outdoor seating, the food at Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge is a delicious blend of Rwandan, African and international cuisine.
Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge is owned by a combination of the community trust (SACOLA - Sabyinyo Community Livelihoods Association) and Governors Camp Ltd, and use the rentals and community fees to drive socio-economic development and conservation initiatives in and around the national park area.
The lodge also partners with the African Wildlife Foundation to protect the forest, gorillas and other animals that call Parc National des Volcans their home. The goal of Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge is to offer exclusive accommodation to attract more visitors for longer stays and provide local impoverished communities with a marketable tourism project while employing and training local staff.
