Cost Per Night
Perfect For

Couples, Honeymoons and Adults

Wilderness Safaris strikes gold, yet again, with this off-the-beaten track, intimate bush hideaway in the wildlife rich, Northern reaches of Akagera National Park. You will arrive to a spacious, open plan communal area and settle in one their handful of luxury, safari tents with views across the sparking waters of Lake Rwanyakazinga.

Activities here include game drives, night drives and boat safaris, and with 6,000hectres of private bush access you couldn’t be better placed for an exclusive Rwandan, safari experience. Game drives run both day and night, from the back of open-sided, spacious 4WD safari vehicles, accommodating a maximum of seven guests at any time and boat trips from a classic, 8-seater swamp cruiser.

You can expect to find an abundance of plains game here including buffalo, rhino, zebra, topi, roan and eland. If you’re on the search for predators you’ll be pleased to know that Magashi is home to a healthy population of lions and, if you keep your binoculars at the ready, leopard. Leave the shore and take to the water to spend time with hippos and crocodiles too as you watch the action around you unfold from the comfort of a Magashi cruiser.

Wilderness Safaris properties are, by nature, dedicated to serving the sustainability and conservation practices that we at Wayfairer hold most dear. Magashi is no different; they work closely with local communities, African Parks and the Rwanda Development Board to help drive the country’s wildlife areas toward a brighter future.

The Camp

The charm and intimacy of Magashi is apparent from the moment you arrive, serenaded by birdlife and the gentle grumble of hippos, and are greeted with the warmth and kindness that Rwandans are so famous for.

Raised pathways snake effortlessly along the shores of Lake Rwanyakazinga, connecting the camp’s 6 rooms to an expansive, central, dining and lounge area. Rooms are spaced well enough apart to ensure privacy and are fully plumbed with hot and cold running water. 100% solar electricity is available, as are multi point charging plugs and tea and coffee stations. The icing on the cake has to be the King size beds, which overlook the room’s spacious veranda and offer spectacular, uninterrupted lake views.

The camp’s central communal area is the beating heart of the property, consisting of an open fire pit, lavish lounge area, private dining, dining room and swimming pool. At the end of a long day in the sunshine you’ll be hard pressed to find an experience better than taking a dip in the swimming pool, sipping a cold drink and watching the sun set over the water beside a crackling fire.

Facilities

Day and night game drives, boat safaris, catch and release fishing, photography and walking (seasonal and subject to availability) are all available. Private, scenic helicopter flights can be arranged.

Dining

Meals are largely private dining, a la carte menus served in the main dining area. Guests are not on a strict schedule for mealtimes and are encouraged to relax and enjoy meals at their leisure.

Why Wayfairer

The success story of Akagera is a tale told with fondness in safari circles, and your visit to Magashi contributes to Akagera’s goal of making the park entirely, economically self-sufficient. It’s no small feat, as wildlife conservation is heavily reliant tourism which, in years past has taken a major hit and preservation of this diverse wilderness area has fallen primarily to donor funding. Magashi, Akagera and Wayfairer want nothing more to see this iconic national park stand proudly on its own two feet, as it deserves to.
