A smaller property in the quaint neighbourhood of San Blas, Antigua Casona is an intimate and traditional lodge nestled in a quieter and quirky part of Cusco. Winding cobbled streets lead upwards towards this hotel, tucked away modestly in the vibrant, artistic sector of the city. A hidden gem, modest and full of character.
Authentic Peruvian hospitality is experienced at its finest in Antigua Casona San Blas. The care taken to highlight the building’s original architecture is replicated in the staff’s compassion towards guests. The warm atmosphere of this lodge is achieved through the people who run it.
Beautifully appointed rooms wind around a central courtyard, hosting a huge firepit to get cozy by in the cooler Cusco evenings. Stone patios with carved wood ornaments and draping indigeneous plants are overlooked by handcrafted banisters and balconies of the original Casona.
Enjoy cultural heritage and history, art and comfort all in one secluded city spot. Gorge yourself on an extensive and incredibly fresh breakfast downstairs at the restaurant and bar, and try the speciality coca tea to cure altitude sickness. Piedra y Sal is one of Cusco’s top restaurants, and is on site here in Antigua Casona San Blas. Treatments at the natural spa, and a yoga studio are readily available to wind down after a day’s excursion in the capital city of the Kingdom of the Sun.
The property is a restored 16th century mansion with stone patios, hand-crafted wooden balconies and authentic carvings. There are 26 rooms in Antigua Casona San Blas and three different room types. The ‘Senorial Suites’ have private balconies overlooking Cusco and the lodge’s inner courtyard. The vast beds, warm interior and marble bathroom ensure a comfortable night’s rest.
All rooms have in-room WiFi, radiant heating, a flat-screen TV, unlimited hot water, private bathrooms with bath-tubs, all circling around a central patio heated by a huge firepit. The in-house bar serves delicious cocktails, so feel free to sip on a chilcano in the lounging seats circling the central patio. There is a yoga studio and indulgent spa on site too.
Leading out onto the sunny courtyard, Piedra y Sal is one of Cusco’s top restaurants. Antiguo Casona San Blas’ restaurant is open to the public and guests, and adored by all for its outstanding and vibrant dishes. It is a traditional Peruvian restaurant with locally sourced Andean food. Try the trucha, alpaca or osso bucco, or taste the flavours of the valley with ample vegetarian options such as squash soup, colourful corn, quinoa and an absolutely delicious mushroom kapchi. Imaginatively presented, perfectly cooked and full of flavour.
At Wayfairer we are incredibly selective with the lodges we chose to partner with. The Sacred Valley is a precious location with deep-rooted cultural history and incredible biodiversity we wish to treasure, highlight and protect with each visit. Antiguo Casona San Blas is a lodge that shares these values with us, working alongside local communities and promoting positive tourism to this important part of Peru. On a Wayfairer adventure, we ensure that all needs are catered for with a 24hr Luxury Concierge Service, and the most compassionate local guides in each location. Along with our care of clients, we also care deeply for the locations we enter into, respecting these and leaving places unscathed by our visit.
