Fletcher Lodge - Dunedin's secluded lodge

Cost Per Night
Perfect For

Couples & Families

Situated just minutes from the heart of Dunedin, guests can walk to the town centre, then retreat to this secluded lodge surrounded by beautifully manicured gardens.

Built in 1924 by Sir James Fletcher, this historic property served as Sir James’ private residence while overseeing the construction of the New Zealand and South Seas International Exhibition.

The property is now a registered Historic Places Trust building and has been beautifully refurbished with elegant styling and modern amenities, with options to suit a family holiday or a couples retreat.

The four luxury rooms in the original house are richly furnished with antique, hand-carved furniture, cast-iron claw foot baths, underfloor heating, and French doors leading out to sunny private balconies overlooking the gardens and valley below.

Separate to the main building are two self-contained apartments. The double bedroom suites are designed for families or two couples travelling together, and contain spacious living rooms and stunning views.

The property features a luxury hot tub, an oak-panelled lounge where guests can relax, and there are detailed stained glass windows, arched casement windows, and ornate plaster ceilings throughout the residence.

The hosts of Fletcher Lodge, Ewa and Keith, are long-time Dunedin residents, and they provide a fantastic personal service, with local insight into the best of Dunedin’s attractions and dining.

The lodge

Designed to reflect the property’s grand history, each of Fletcher Lodge’s rooms and suites showcase antique elegance and beautiful architectural detail. The four luxury rooms, located in the original heritage building from 1924, feature antique, hand-carved furniture including a hand-carved mahogany four-poster bed, ornate mahogany wardrobes and carved chairs and writing desks. There are richly upholstered grandfather chairs, carved Victorian dressers, and gorgeous grandfather clocks, while the underfloor heating adds a modern luxurious touch. French doors lead to balconies overlooking Dunedin, offering a private sunny space.

The two separate luxury suites are apartment-sized retreats, with double bedrooms, and a spacious sitting room, dining room, bathroom and separate toilet. The suites boast spectacular views over the Otago Peninsula. Fletcher Lodge is a peaceful hideaway, nestled amidst secluded gardens. Soak in the luxury hot tub or enjoy a glass of New Zealand wine in the guest lounge. A complimentary breakfast is served each morning in the grand Wedgwood Room, offering an array of fresh fruit, cereals, yoghurt, and freshly baked pastries. There’s also the option for a cooked breakfast with locally-caught salmon and fresh scrambled eggs on English muffins, or their renowned Jajecznia na Boczku, Polish-style bacon and eggs.
