Perfect For

Couples, Families & Honeymoons

Set in lush gardens with serene views of the Waimea Estuary, Te Koi - The Lodge at Bronte boasts incomparable natural beauty, refined luxury accommodation and sumptuous local food and drink, all courtesy of well-travelled foodie hosts Ali and Ian Metcalfe.

Operating since 1993, the Lodge has sat on the exclusive Bronte lookout point for over a quarter of a century, with a recent renovation adding even more luxury facilities and enhancing the sophisticated décor; upgrading The Lodge to the highest standards of design and comfort.

Accommodation is comprised of gorgeous suites, charming villas and The Residence, a superlative property with two bedrooms, featuring a private heated spa pool and helipad.

All accommodation makes the most of the impeccable views of the estuary, with private decks and outdoor terraces overlooking the waters.

The main building of the Lodge is decorated in rich, warm colours chosen to provide an optimal drinking and dining atmosphere in the evenings.

Be sure to try the exquisite three-course meals prepared by Ali, which serve up local dishes of seasonal and organic ingredients, paired with local wines from the nearby award-winning wineries.

Located halfway between the city of Nelson and Abel Tasman National Park, and with Nelson Airport only 25 minutes away, The Lodge is the perfect place to base yourself to explore the region via a cycling taste tour, a helicopter ride or even a private chartered boat trip.

That is, if you can tear yourself away from The Lodge’s heated outdoor swimming pool, delicious charcuterie boards and stunning estuary vistas.

The lodge

Suites overlook the waters of the estuary with waterfront private decks, villas sit right on the water’s edge with private terraces, while The Residence is perched on the tip of the Bronte peninsula, offering the utmost in luxury, seclusion and privacy. The Residence includes two large double bedrooms, living and dining spaces (including a fully equipped kitchen, though we highly recommend the three-course dinners served at the Lodge), a private heated outdoor spa pool and a helipad that allows direct access to the Nelson region.

Works of art from the Metcalfes’ own art collection adorn the walls, while fresh flowers add a touch of natural elegance. Luxury details include high-quality linen and fabrics, walk-in shower and baths, freshly baked seasonal treats, as well as a complimentary non-alcoholic refreshment and mini bar. Specially chartered helicopter and boat trips can be arranged, wine and art tours are available, as are chartered days out exploring the Abel Tasman. From this location, you can visit filming locations from Lord of the Rings, take a bespoke cycle taste tour, or relax on your own secluded beach with a picnic lunch.

Facilities

The heated swimming pool and tennis courts are open all year round, helicopter and chartered boat trips are available, mountain bikes and canoes can be rented, cycling tours focused on food and art can be arranged, while massage and yoga services can be provided upon request.

Dining

Gourmet breakfasts are served daily and three-course dinners are prepared in-house, showcasing the very best of regional produce, organic ingredients and fresh, seasonal cuisine. There are also charcuterie boards available, which can be enjoyed on the outdoor deck at the Lodge, or in the privacy of your accommodation.

Why Wayfairer

Food and drink are a real highlight of a stay here, with the hosts focusing on locally-sourced organic ingredients to prepare seasonal New Zealand delicacies, as well as pairings with boutique wines from nearby wineries, which help support the local industries. As a family-run independent lodge, a stay at Te Koi is also a great opportunity to support a local business, as opposed to staying at a big chain hotel, plus it’s a chance to engage with your local hosts and experience authentic Kiwi hospitality.
