Just five minutes from the centre of Cambridge, the family-run Huntington Stables Retreat is tucked away in a quiet, semi-rural setting, offering guests a chance to rest and reenergise.
Huntington Stables is a great base for those looking to explore the Waikato region, as the property is close to attractions such as the glow worm caves of Waitomo, the geothermal waters of Rotorua, Hobbiton and Sanctuary Mountain. Hamilton Airport is only a 20-minute drive away.
There are four accommodation options available: North Stable, South Stable, Loft and Stall, with the north and south stables being the most luxurious with kitchen and dining facilities, private balconies, barbecue equipment and gorgeous mountain views. All room types are spacious and comfortable, featuring homely and cosy décor suited to the rustic surroundings.
The property is a popular spot for weddings, honeymoons and anniversaries, due to the romantic setting and luxury facilities. However, the swimming pool, steam sauna and bubbling spa pool also attracts groups of friends and families looking for a private getaway or a day of pampering.
Spend the evening soaking in the hot spa-pool, then sit on your private balcony with a glass of locally-made wine and one of the retreat’s delicious sharing platters of New Zealand fare, then watch the sun dip behind the mountains.

The property
The North Stable and South Stable are self-contained luxury lodges, which include private kitchen facilities, a lounge area, a dining area, as well as a spacious bedroom and bathroom. French doors open out onto a private deck, which is the perfect spot for sipping a glass of wine while watching the sun set behind the hills or hosting your own barbecue. The back doors open out to the pool area.
The Loft is a spacious and comfortable studio with a kitchenette, while the Stall is a cosy guest room attached to the main house. All guests are welcome to use the swimming pool facilities, steam sauna and hot spa-pool. There are also petanque courts and a badminton lawn, should you wish to play, and a small gift shop selling New-Zealand-made art, pottery and souvenirs.

Dining
Try the homemade muesli for breakfast or one of the sharing platters for a shared snack or lunch. The platter includes cheese, salami, olives, fruit, vegetables, pickles and crackers – perfect for pairing with one of the Stables’ wines.

The property provides pure filtered drinking water, to discourage guests from buying bottled water; all paper, tin, glass and plastic is recycled; food scraps are given to the chickens; and the gift shop sells locally-produced goods and works by local artists.
