This luxury lodge was built entirely by hand by the local community and is operated in partnership with them, it has just 20 villas each with a Private Mozambican host service for the duration of your stay.

The hand-built villas blend modern chic with all that is traditional in Mozambique. The Property

Azura Benguerra is a stunning property. The lodge consists of 20 villas in total; 3 beach villas, 3 luxury beach villas, 10 infinity beach villas, 2 Royal beach villas, Villa Amizade & the Presidential Villa. The beach villas are ideal for couples or honeymooners looking for privacy and seclusion for their stay. Families would look at Villa Amizade or the Presidential Villa for their stay.

Azura Benguerra Island's public areas are right on the beach and open to the sea. There is several different zones for your enjoyment and relaxation, from the comfortable lounge area, to the vibey Star Bar, and the fabulous wine cellar offering a selection of the owner’s wines, especially flown in from their Chateau in France. The Jellyfish Restaurant offers breakfast and more formal dining. There is a media room for those needing TV and internet access, a boutique at reception, and a Padi 5 Star dive centre with top of the range Scuba-pro equipment.

Dining

The food here is excellent – often based around fresh seafood that the fishermen bring in that day! It’s important to note that if you don’t like fish, best to let them know in advance. Breakfast and lunch are light affairs with lunch typically being served on the beach. Dinner is slightly more formal 3 course meal. All around delicious food served here!

Activities

If you tire of dozing on the beach there are plenty of activities on offer around Azura beach lodge. Water activities centre around scuba diving, snorkelling trips, big-game and salt-water fly fishing (catch-and-release policy), island hopping and relaxed sunset dhow cruises. An island drive and sunset dhow cruise is included in every guest's stay; other activities are an additional charge.

Why Wayfairer

Azura Benguerra takes the spot of first eco-lodge in Mozambique. During building, rather than bring in outside contractors, the owners employed almost exclusively local islanders, teaching them new skills to enable them to find employment after completion of the lodge.

In addition, about 90% of the staff now employed at Azura Benguerra are from the islands, or from nearby mainland towns, and all employees are taught English and the skills required to operate in the tourism industry. Where possible every aspect of the lodge is as eco as can be, think solar showers, eco detergents and minimal plastic.
