Luxury lodging and sensational views across Lake Malawi

Cost Per Night
Perfect For

Couples, Honeymoons and Families

Being the only lodge in the area, Pumulani is able to offer visitors a truly exclusive experience in this incredible part of Lake Malawi; one of the largest and deepest lakes in the world. With its ten unique villas, the service and experience at Pumulani is intimate and tailored to each guest. The lodge is set high above the water, which means a view of the lake and African bush is showcased throughout most of the property whether you are sitting at the bar, lounge or in your own villa.

Weary travellers will enjoy relaxing poolside or on the sandy beach, and those looking for adventure will enjoy kayaking, water skiing, sailing and snorkelling the pristine waters of Lake Malawi. Prefer to stay grounded? Keep your shoes on and enjoy a walk to visit nearby villages or venture further afield for a bit of hiking or mountain biking in the hills.

Pumulani doesn’t provide any special children’s activities, but the beach, pool and many of the activities on offer here are great fun for the whole family and a children’s menu is provided at mealtimes. It is worth noting however that, as the property is elevated, those that are less mobile may well struggle to get around.

The lodge

There are ten uniquely designed and decorated villas built on the lush hillside, tucked away in the trees on a craggy outcrop. The villas themselves are spacious in design, with contemporary décor. There is a small bar and dining area as well as an open decked area used for breakfast and dinner. The villas include four twin, four king, one honeymoon and one family villa.

The two large infinity pools and private beach area are ideal for relaxing and swimming in the hot months and are accessible either by the stair from the lodge or a complimentary golf-cart transfer.

Activities on offer include snorkelling, fishing, sailing, nature walks, kayaking, sunset dhow boat cruises, mountain bike tours and village tours. There are also other activities charged for, including motorised water sports and scuba diving.

Dining is done in several locations around the property such as the dining room, decked area, pool side or on the beach itself. There is also a unique dhow boat experience that includes breakfast should you want to try this.

Why Wayfairer

Pumulani takes green technology seriously and there are several in-camp practices that support their eco-friendly approach to lodge management. These include solar power and solar water heating systems, waste water is treated and then either reused or responsibly disposed of and card and paper is recycled locally. We applaud their commitment to sustainable practices and this, together with their exclusive location, beautiful views and huge range of family-friendly activities make Pumulani a much-loved, Wayfairer-approved destination.
