Perfect For

Couples, Honeymooners & Adults.

The Greg Mortimer was built in 2019, making in one of the newest polar ships in circulation around the poles.

As well as using cutting edge nautical technology it was designed in consultation with the experienced expedition team to create one of the most practical and advanced ships in operation. It is the first passenger ship to feature the revolutionary Ulstein X Bow, this gives the hull a curved shape increasing the foreship volume, as a result the water gently flows over the bow, reducing the impact and slamming waves. This is particularly noticeable in helping to calm the notorious Drake passage.

The ship averages 126 passengers in 77 comfortable, stylish cabins spread across 8 decks, from the Staterooms with a porthole window right up to the Captain’s suite complete with a balcony and walk-in wardrobe.

The cutting-edge design continues with hydraulic viewing platforms that fold out for un-obscured views of passing wildlife, state of the art lecture facilities and four sea-level launching platforms for the fifteen Zodiacs on board.

Depending on the voyage several extra activities are on offer such as kayaking diving, climbing and ski-touring, there is a dedicated activities platform to ensure the transition from ship to sea or shore is as smooth as possible.

The ship

Of the 77 cabins on the Greg Mortimer the most ‘basic’ of which are the Staterooms. There are triple, double or twin configurations and feature a private en-suite, porthole window, a desk, 42-inch flat-screen TV and a small sofa. Although the entry level room category there are very well appointment and nicely decorated as you would expect from such a modern ship. Striking polar photos adorn the walls and the light, bright colours echo the stunning shades of blue and white you might see outside. The most numerous room type on board are the 58 Balcony Staterooms in three different categories A,B and C depending on their deck and cabin size. However, all have a private balcony of around 7 square metres. A stunning extra. The Junior and Captain’s suites complete the rooming list and come with extra space in the cabin and the pick of the position, giving some of the best views.

The communal areas consist of a peaceful library with floor-to-ceiling windows, the observation lounge on deck 7, a mudroom for all your wet weather gear, a spa, sauna and gym and of course a well-stocked bar and friendly bar tenders.

The facilities onboard include a variety of cabin types, a sauna, gym and spa, lecture theatre, observation decks, library, dining room and bars

Why Wayfairer

Sailing in such delicate and pristine waters as those found in the Arctic and the Antarctic the Greg Mortimer has been designed with a number of features to ensure it leaves as little impact as possible in it’s wake. Firstly, it has one of the lowest polluting marine engines in the world, reducing emissions by 80% compared to traditional, tier 1 engines. Secondly, rather than a traditional anchor, which can negatively impact the sea floor, the ship has a virtual anchoring system using a combination of GPS, steering, propellers and thrusters to keep the boat in the same place.
